Project Overview
Beem is transforming the way that employees on the move engage with news and content within their company.
Modern businesses use intranets or Enterprise Social Networks to share news, updates and company information with their employees. For employees these systems are integral to their working day but often they do not live up to expectations on mobile platforms. Beem brings the experience together in an engaging mobile platform that employees simply love to use!

Project Brief
Companies were crying out for a way to mobilise existing intranet news, blogs and updates along with Enterprise Social Network (ESN) activity and external social feeds like TED Talks, Twitter, Facebook and various RSS news feeds.
They wanted this great content all in one place. They wanted it to be amazing to engage with. And they needed it to be fully mobile.
We developed a secure private mobile platform, called Beem that surfaces this information, brings it all together and enables bidirectional content flow. For example, if a user posts content on an existing ESN it will show in Beem, if a user posts content on Beem it will show up in the ESN.
Beem feels like a consumer platform, and not an enterprise one. It's this fantastic experience that users love, and that's why we have greater engagement on mobile platforms when compared to the incumbent desktop solutions.
Project Need
The words we keep hearing from our clients were ‘simplicity’ and ‘integration’. Companies already have numerous systems, channels and locations for updates, news and content. They wanted an app that would bring everything together in a simple yet engaging way.
They also wanted something that was easy to use and wouldn’t be seen as yet another channel for employees to check. Integration requirements were different for each company and depended on what systems were already being used, so we needed to design a very flexible platform. Enabling employees to interact with content via comments, likes, posting user-generated content etc. was very important. Making that flow bidirectional was vital in ensuring channel integrity.
Some companies were looking for a way to drive greater adoption of existing platforms, which had been invested in significantly. By enabling employees to access the content in a unified way, no matter where they were, Beem made content and ESN groups more discoverable. This in turn drove higher engagement with existing platforms.
Companies also wanted a way to check usage analytics, add users and change channel set up easily from the desktop. We provided a dashboard, from which companies can do all of the aforementioned as well as apply their company logo and branding to their instance of Beem.
User Experience
Our approach to user experience is to apply consumer standards to Beem. We believe that the experience you expect in your ‘external life’ should be available in your working life.
The project team has a perfect mix of experience, to apply to the UX, with external social media, gaming and enterprise social management. We are used to fighting for consumer eyeballs and making them change their behaviors. We created a mobile interface that is so easy to use and addictive; employees won’t believe it’s a ‘company thing’.
As Beem makes it easy for employees to post images, text and geo-tag it the platform has a fresh non-corporate feel, which drives greater user engagement.
It's about creating a charming, intrinsically rewarded platform with which to engage. From the Weebo, our spinning channel menu, to the large high resolution images, Beem feels fun and enagaging from the moment you open it.
Project Marketing
For each company we work with we run an initial pilot with a cross-section of users and tweak the offering depending on their feedback. We then move to launch and with each client we run an internal launch campaign. Key company stakeholders are brought on board to create buzz around the launch. We provide on-site training and support, where required and we also provide materials and fun campaign ideas to maximize the initial adoption.
Ongoing we provide newsletters that summarise top content from Beem in a certain time period – usually weekly. This drives repeat visits and helps users discover new content.
Project Privacy
Beem is a secure company network. All user data is securely stored by Beem. Only authenticated users are currently able to use the app. Users authenticate via their company email. The platform manager can suspend membership at any point via the dashboard.
