Project Overview
Kabbee is London’s leading minicab comparison and booking app that enables its users to receive instant quotes from more than 70 fleets with over 10,000 minicabs, at the tap of a button. The app has been developed to make the lives of Londoners easier, allowing them to book a car in advance or instantly, without the hassle of calling around for quotes.
Kabbee was founded in June 2011 by a London-born entrepreneur who had the vision of taking what was a fragmented minicab industry, and bringing it in to the 21st century using state of the art technology.

Project Brief
Imagine this for a challenge…you are given the task of helping eight million Londoners to get the best possible quotes from minicab fleets situated all over the capital, 24/7, 365 days a year. Not only that, but you are tasked to put the solution into the palm of every Londoner’s hand, to get an instant, seamless experience each and every time. ‘Making Minicabs Mighty’ - that was the brief.
Building an award winning platform was the easy part. After launching on web and iPhone in July 2011, Kabbee already had 35 fleets who were keen to come on board, who all were benefiting from the rich user base that had already downloaded the app. In September 2011, it launched on Android, before hitting Blackberry in July 2013. Kabbee is due to launch on Windows in June.
In addition to the platform rollout, Kabbee’s team was constantly looking at how the use of technology could improve the minicab industry. The next brief was to reduce the number of miles each minicab travelled without a passenger on board – known in the industry as ‘dead mileage’. By creating software that reduces dead mileage, Kabbee will help to make minicabs even more cost effective – especially to and from the airport.
Project Need
A massive 25 percent of all bookings via Kabbee are to and from London’s five airports. For this reason, Kabbee has recently launched its new and improved ‘airport availability’ service, which enables Kabbee’s growing number of fleets (currently 70) to upload the number of cars they have available for airport jobs each day – rather than having to give the number of cars available during specific time slots. The new system improves usability for fleet managers, which encourages them to willingly list their drivers’ availability, giving Kabbee users more access to competitive quotes when going to and from the airport.
A spokesperson for Airport Direct, one of the best performing fleets on the Kabbee platforms comments on the new system: “All in all, the airport availability is great as we are able to shape it to suit our needs. The feature has enabled us to cut down our lead time by from 60 minutes to 5-10 minutes, which has created more jobs for us, via Kabbee.”
User Experience
With a quarter of all Kabbee users going to and from London’s airports, it’s vital to get them the most competitive quotes and have minicabs available at all times. The non-negotiable nature of flights generally means that passengers have a strict deadline to aim for – so a slick booking system is required, for both fleets and passengers.
When booking a minicab to or from the airport, the Kabbee app prompts all users to enter their flight number, which gives their driver live arrival information, guaranteeing perfect timekeeping. The advanced booking system gives drivers enough time to park their vehicles in the short stay car park and meet the passenger in the arrivals hall upon their return to London.
Kabbee also introduced a ‘via’ option, which allows users to add in extra stops in between their final destination. This feature is popular for airport passengers, who need to pick up or drop off their fellow holidaymakers.
‘Track My Kabbee’ is another feature on the Kabbee app that helps make life easier for travellers. Track My Kabbee is a GPS-based feature that gives app users a real-time account of where the minicab is on a map, with the vehicle being represented by a little buzzing bee. No more sounding of a horn on arrival – it’s the phone that sounds a horn when the minicab arrives.
Project Marketing
The Kabbee brand is plucky, putting a tongue in cheek, typically British twist on the licensed minicab industry, to reappraise the important service minicab drivers provide to so many busy Londoners.
Kabbee’s latest campaign is designed to encourage Londoners to venture out and explore the city, without worrying about how they are going to get home, or how much it’s going to cost.
Kabbee has recently invested in a hyperlocal billboard takeover on Shoreditch High Street, which says: ‘Get Out Of Shoreditch’, as a thought-provoking call to action to locals who don’t venture outside the area much.
Kabbee’s CEO was recently interviewed by China Business News TV, China’s leading business news programme that airs on terrestrial TV, attracting around 20 million viewers. Since then, Kabbee has seen an exponential rise in Chinese expats and tourists downloading the app to book minicabs.
Half of all Kabbee’s marketing budget is invested in mobile advertising (banner ads / social media targeted ads) – the homeland of all prospective Kabbee users.
Once acquired, Kabbee’s main objective is to retain users. This is done via regular user incentives, competitions, and creative communications – for example, Kabbee recently offered a 20 percent discount on all airport journeys.
Kabbee’s Refer-a-Friend initiative is designed to encourage existing users to spread the word amongst their contacts, in exchange for £10 credit for each new member that they introduce. The new user is also credited £10 to say ‘Welcome to Kabbee’.
Project Privacy
Kabbee is committed to ensuring that its users’ information is secure and used only for its intended purposes. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, Kabbee has put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information that it collects online.
Kabbee has recently employed the services of Rackspace the managed cloud provider. Kabbee now has fully supported cloud hosting with 100 percent guaranteed network uptime, which is vital for busy Londoners in need of faster, cheaper and safer minicab services.
During the recent cyber security attack known as ‘Heartbleed’, Kabbee was completely unaffected and was awarded a Level A overall rating for its strength of security. A few UK-based minicabs apps scored a Level F, after revealing a number of security risks.
