London, UK, June 18, 2014 The UK App Design Awards is pleased to announce the winners of the inaugural UK Awards. Attracting over 160 entrants in its first year, some 30 category awards were announced including the coveted App Design Champion – Chairman’s Award awarded to Droidcon by Novoda. The awards provide a unique opportunity for all sectors of the industry and marketplace to engage and extend the design conversation and to celebrate the courage of both commissioners and creators.
The Awards were announced by design100 CEO and Founder Mark Bergin as part of London Tech Week. The UK App design Awards are supported by key collaboration partners and advisory panel members including Calypso Harland, CEO & Founder DeveloperLab, Navin Arora, Founder AppsJunction, and collaborative partners Tech City, London & Partners, London Tech Week, TRUSTe, 3Beards, qLegal and Chinwag.
"There has been an extraordinary array of talent and innovative projects showcasing the depth and strength of app design in the UK market," said Mark Bergin. "This year the app moved beyond smartphones to web apps, console apps and platform apps. The era of the app only being on Apple devices is past, long live the app."
Other award winners included the Best Studio – less than 5 232 Studio, 5-20 We are Beem and 20+ Compsoft, who were involved in over 10 entry projects including 4 outright category winners. Category winners included Best App or Startup awarded to the overwhelming marketplace and judge favourite - Kabbee, dual award for Best New Service to LokLok and ESPN UK APP, Education – Groupcall Emerge for Schools, Television & Movies – the Freesat App, Fashion – Snap Fashion and Financial Information and Tools – Snapt Energy. The UK App Design Awards are part of a global Grand Slam series including participants from UK, U.S., Asia and Australia, which recognises innovation and design within the mobile app ecosystem. The winners were based on over 2,000 ratings from the marketplace, industry and judging panel. All winners of the 2014 Awards are available for interview.
